Last updated on Aug 24, 2026 7:15 AM 7:15 AM 355.10 ms

Overview

The XML Sitemap plugin generates dynamic, search-engine-compliant XML sitemaps containing all published content. Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yandex use these sitemaps to discover, crawl, and index your pages with optimal efficiency.

Activation

  1. Navigate to Blog > Plugins.
  2. Find XML Sitemap and click Activate.

Multi-Sitemap Architecture

For optimal indexing and large-scale content organization, PolyCMS creates a master sitemap index with dedicated sub-sitemaps:

SitemapURL EndpointContents
Master Index/{prefix}/sitemap.xmlMaster XML index referencing all sub-sitemaps
Posts Sitemap/{prefix}/sitemap-posts.xmlAll published blog posts with lastmod and changefreq
Pages Sitemap/{prefix}/sitemap-pages.xmlAll static published CMS pages
Categories Sitemap/{prefix}/sitemap-categories.xmlAll category archive endpoints
Tags Sitemap/{prefix}/sitemap-tags.xmlAll active tag archive endpoints

All URLs respect your configured blog prefix (e.g., /blog, /news, or root mode).

Automatic Search Engine Pinging

Whenever a post or page is published, updated, or deleted, PolyCMS automatically triggers an asynchronous HTTP ping notification to search engines (Google and Bing) to alert web crawlers about updated content immediately.

Submitting to Google Search Console

  1. Log in to Google Search Console.
  2. Select your property domain.
  3. Navigate to Sitemaps in the left sidebar.
  4. Enter your primary sitemap URL (https://yourdomain.com/blog/sitemap.xml) and click Submit.

Dynamic Generation & Cache Invalidation

All sitemaps are generated dynamically with proper XML MIME headers (application/xml; charset=utf-8). Draft, private, and password-protected items are strictly excluded from all public sitemaps.
